Delivering Safety Animation for One of India’s Leading Power Generation Companies

1. The Premise

JSW Energy Ltd., a prominent force in India’s power generation sector with thermal and renewable assets, approached CORE EHS with a mission: to elevate safety awareness at its Hydro Energy Plant in Himachal Pradesh. With safety being central to JSW’s operations, especially in high-risk hydropower environments, the need for an engaging, scalable, and site-specific training medium became a priority.

CORE EHS was selected to conceptualize and deliver a customized 3D animated safety video, tailored to reflect both the operational hazards and regulatory expectations of a hydropower facility.

2. The Challenges

Hydropower plants operate in remote and high-risk terrain, with critical safety factors including high-voltage equipment, turbine operations, confined spaces, and difficult access routes. JSW Energy needed to:

• Standardize induction training for contractors and technical personnel.
• Replace slide-based instruction with visually immersive, multilingual content.
• Ensure compliance with internal safety KPIs and safety audit protocols.
• Improve engagement and retention, particularly for contract staff with varying literacy levels.

A review of previous training revealed that over 50% of new joiners struggled to recall key emergency procedures within 30 days of induction. JSW’s safety leadership needed a visual-first solution with high recall value.

3. The Solution

CORE EHS created a bespoke 3D animated safety induction video, fully aligned with JSW’s SOPs and site-specific hazards.

Project Deliverables:

• 8–10 minute 3D animated video, developed in phases to incorporate real JSW Hydro Plant scenarios.
• Inclusion of live site schematics, high-voltage zone simulations, LOTO (Lockout Tagout), and environmental risk segments.
• Narration in Hindi and English, ensuring 95%+ linguistic coverage for on-ground staff.
• Scene-by-scene validation with JSW’s EHS team to ensure technical accuracy and contextual fidelity.

The animation was engineered for classroom as well as digital deployment, reducing dependency on safety officers for every batch.

4. Resulting Benefits

Within the first 60 days of using the animated safety video at the site, the JSW team observed notable improvements:

• Training time reduced by 48%, allowing for more streamlined onboarding cycles.
• Emergency response recall improved by 64%, based on post-training drills.
• Induction feedback scores increased by 70%, with workers reporting higher clarity and interest.
• The animation also helped in achieving internal compliance scores of over 92% during periodic safety audits.

Furthermore, JSW is now considering replicating this visual training format across other hydro and thermal units, following the success of this pilot.
